RSSとHTML

過日の 「RSS大混乱」 に対して 山田BBS にて反応あり．ありがたいなあ．．．掲示板への反応をまたこっちで書く，というのも変な感じやけど試しにやってみます．RSSとHTMLについて思うところ．ちなみに遅くなったのはしばらくネットのない場所にいたからです．
当方はネットでの議論のスタイルに慣れてないのでメール風にやりたいと思います．

＞HTMLだってコンピュータが読むためのものです。
＞一般人が手書きしやすいものにするか、ソフト生成を主に考えるかどうかって話じゃないかな。
＞RDFって本来は普通一般人が手書きするような目的でないように思う。

個人的にはHTMLみたいなマークアップ言語がここまで流行ったのは奇跡としか思えない．いまはもう慣れてしまってるから手書きでも書くけど，テキストを書くにあたってコンピュータに合わせた文法を覚えて使わないといけない，などという面倒なものがどうして普及したのか．ページデザインツールは例外やけど，これもHTML自体がある程度普及してからでないと誰も作らなかっただろうし．この辺は歴史的経緯を分析すれば何かの知見が得られるかもしれないが，少なくともこの手のフォーマットを使ってもらうには何らかのモチベーションというかインセンティブがないといけないだろう．で，HTMLのインセンティブは，経験に即していえばタグをつけるとすぐにテキストの見た目が変わって楽しい，ということだった．（このあたりは微妙な問題を孕む．HTMLを始めた時期によっては楽しさ云々よりもうコミュニケーションのルールとして成立していたから，ということもあっただろう）他人に見せる前に書いた本人がすぐ楽しい，そういう直接的なものがあってはじめて日常的に使うようになったのではないか．

さて，RSSはどうだろうか．手書きして保存した瞬間に何が起きるか．というと何も起こらない．見た目も変わらないし他人が感動のメールをくれるわけでもない（後者は大多数のHTMLだってそうだが）．もちろん後になって見知らぬ誰かがRSSをRNAか何かでチェックしてくれるかも知れないが，まあ書いた本人としては直接的なメリットを感じるというところまでは行きにくい．だからこそここ1〜2年までは規格があっても誰も見向きしなかったのだろう．が，いまではRSSを自動生成してくれるツールがある．RSSを自動でチェックして集めてくれるツールがある．卵と鶏の関係が解決したとは言い切れないまでも，RSSを生成するためのコストは低減し，インセンティブは大きくなった．それが現在のRSSの普及につながっていることは間違いない．そしてそのコスト/インセンティブの関係はHTMLとは異なるので，もっと普及させようと思ったら違う方法を考えないといけない．という前提があって，いまのRSSに関する論争の一部，すなわち「そんなに難しい文法が人に書けるか」というのは無意味に感じる．だってどんなにタグを簡略化してもRSSを手書きするということ自体が楽しくないから（一般的にメタデータにはこの問題がつきまとう）．その一方で自動生成に関するソリューションができつつあって，人手を介さないRSS流通ができるのならばコンピュータに親和性の高いフォーマットを使えばいいのじゃないかと．で，どうしても自動化できない部分だけを書き手にお願いするための手書きフォーマットなら個人的には喜んで賛同します，というのが前の話でした．あまり直接てきには答えていませんがどうでしょうか．ところどころ前と同じことを書いてるような気もしますが．．．でもやっぱり初期のHTMLの書き手がコストの問題をなぜ乗り越えられたのかは謎．理系だったから？TeXみたいだったから？新しかったから？

＞XMLにタグが無限に定義可能でまずいって話は、
＞DTDとかschemaでその規格で使用するするタグを
＞RSS?.?という形で定義してんだからHTMLとかわんないよ。
＞HTMLみたいな、Webページ記述以外の用途用のいろんな言語が作れるってのがXMLだから。

については，RSSのコアの部分はどのバージョンでもその通りで，1.0についてはそれにプラスして何かリッチにしたければnamespaceやmoduleを導入して語彙を増やしていける，というまさにそのことが複雑だ，などと0.91陣営が批判してなかったかなあと思うのですが，よくよく考えると（というか考えるまでもなく）2.0にもnamespaceとmoduleはあるのでそれ自体が論争の種にはなり得ないなあと．書き方が悪かったので訂正したいと思います．

＞要するにHTML(＆XHTML)的なポジションで考えられてるのがRSS0.91なんだな。

まさに議論のポイントはここで，RSS（ひいてはメタデータ一般）にHTML的なポジション（書きやすさ・処理しやすさを含めて）を与えることが目的と手段に合致するのだろうかということを問題にしたかったのです．

ということで，拙い文章で申し訳ないですが引き続き議論を深めていきたいなあと思っております．みなさまよろしくお願いします．

ヨコヤリ失礼いたします。 私の手元にたまたま11年前の月刊ASCIIがあるのですが、そこから興味深い例をあげてみます。 - 記事「米国を買おう WordPerfect 5.1J」 当時世界でいちばんうれていたワープロソフトがついに日本に上陸したという話。このWordPerfectでは、マークアップ型の書式（修飾のためのマークアップ）が採用されていました。ちなみに当時の日本では一太郎という（擬似）WYSIWYG指向のワープロソフトが主流で、結局、異文化のWordPerfectは一太郎にまるでかなわなかったわけですね。さらに数年をまって、リアルWYSIWYGのMS-WORDが出てくるまでは。 強引なこじつけですが、「英文タイプライタ」文化圏の人たちには比較的にマークアップ型の書式には抵抗感がないのでは？ということです。いっぽう「活版あるいはガリ版」文化圏ではWYSIWYG指向に馴染みやすい素地があるのではないかな…と。飛躍していますが。

すみません、話が見えずらいですね。私の投稿はi2kさんの　「個人的にはHTMLみたいなマークアップ言語がここまで流行ったのは奇跡としか思えない．」　という部分に関する反応です。 それともうひとつ。過去に倣うならば、手書きによるマークアップは、やがてコンピュータの補助によるより直感的なインターフェイスによって駆逐される…RSSの出力に関しても自動生成は自明の進歩かと思います。

コメントありがとうございます．WordPerfectがマークアップ型でしかもそれがある程度受け入れられていた？というのは衝撃的です．それなら確かにHTMLへの移行のコストは比較的小さくなるわけですが．．．それといしだなおとさんのコメントを読むまではあんまり考えてなかったのですが，WYSIWYGのRSSエディタが出てくる可能性はあるのかなあと．もちろんHTMLエディタとは別のアプローチになるのでしょうが，コンピュータによる支援のあり方はいろいろありますね．ちなみにRSSではなくRDFの世界では研究としていろんなエディタが提案されていますが，まったく楽しそうではありません．

HTMLがUNIX系文化圏から入ったというのはいいですよね。 で、UNIX文化圏では、テキスト整形は、由緒正しいroff系から、TeX系まで、すべてマークアップ方式だったのです。 ですからHTMLにしても、「またあたらしいマークアップ」 でしかなかったわけです。「今度はSGML系か」という 感じで。 それだけのことです。

返事にもならないほど遅いレスですみません．「またあたらしいマークアップ」と思える人は全く問題ないのですが，「マークアップという作業自体があたらしい」人にとって，コンピュータに合わせて文書を作るというスタイルが受け入れられたのがすごいなあと思ったのです．
