とある筋より学会などのイベント情報をRSSとiCalendarで配信したい，という意欲的な試みについてのお話があった．すでにここではメール配信をやっており，これはこれで重宝しているのだが，さらなる一歩としてこういったメタデータ配信はどんどんやってほしい．で，iCalendarの方は即戦力というか，iCal（ややこしいけどAppleのカレンダーソフトです）に読み込ませると普通に便利につきすでに常用中．ではRSSの方はどうか．個人的にはイベント情報のRSS配信はblogの可能性を広げるだろうとまで思っている．なぜかというと，イベント情報は必ず未来のことを指し示していて，メタデータ化すればこれを各人がクリップするなり何なりしてスケジュールを作って公開することができるようになるからだ．blog（というか日記）は個人の持つ時間軸の過去方向に関する記述であり，スケジュールは未来方向に関する記述であると考えると，これらは1つのCMS=blogツールでまとめて管理したくなってきて，その結果としてblog上の検索による行動支援ということにもつながっていく．

さて，こういった理想を実現するためのイベント情報RSSであるが，既存のモデルと合わないところが多々あって難儀する．最大の問題は日付の取り扱い．イベントの日時をdc:dateに書きたくなるのが人情だが，それをやるとアグリゲーションの際に未来のイベントが常に上の方に表示されてしまう．ただでさえ「うそつきRSS」が氾濫して困っているというのに，堂々と未来の日付が書かれたRSSが配信されるとなると誰も使わなくなってしまう．というわけで，イベントやスケジュールを記述するためにはある程度の工夫が必要になる．しかもメタデータの「理想」とアプリ開発の「現実」の両方を損ねない形で．

まずは必須の文献を挙げる．例のごとくkanzaki.comより RDFカレンダー --iCalendatとRSSによるイベント情報の公開と活用 でだいたいの状況と対処法はわかる．というかいま書いているエントリーの必要性があるのかどうかというぐらい，しっかりした文書です．とくに RDFicalの語彙をRSSで使う の部分が重要．ここではRDFicalを使うかeventモジュールを使うかは考えないが（非常に重要な問題ですが，1人では決められない），イベントを考える際には「時間」にイベントの開始時間，終了時間，そしてそのイベント情報自体を配信した時間の3要素があり，前者2つについてはRSSの基本フレームワークから外す，すなわちitemのdc:dateには記述しないということは運用のルールとしてfixさせないといけないだろう．あとはもちろんRSSリーダー側が上記モジュールに対応してイベントを正しく表示されるのが理想だが，それまでの暫定的対応としてtitleの先頭に開始時間を入れておくのは悪くない．リーダー側のソート機能でスケジュールを何とかしようというアプローチ．記法はdc:dateと同じようにして，そのあとの文字列は自由．書いてて無理があるなあとうすうす感じてはいるけど．理想と現実の折り合い点はこの辺ではないか．メタデータの配信側はできるだけリッチにし，かつアグリゲーション側が判断に困らないようにするというのが鉄則．というわけで提案（Version 0.1）は以下の通り．
