「First International Moblogging Conference」というものに行ってきた．なんか200人ぐらい人がいて日本人は3割ぐらいか．セッションもほとんど英語だが豪気なことに同時通訳つき．すごい．ともかくえらい熱気である．で，どうだったのかというとまったくもってピンとこない．遅刻したので最初の方は聞き逃したが，みんな揃いも揃って「Weblogが携帯で更新できるのは革命だ！」という．以上．もちろん人によって専門領域の話があるけども，メッセージとしては前述の通り．で，解散．うーむ，ここまでサプライズがない会議というのも珍しい．あれだけの面子が並んでいたのに，いったい何が悪いのか？生Joiを初めて拝見したという収穫だけではもったいないので考えてみる．

まずはWeblogという概念が輸入されてきたときに起こった典型的な反応と同じものがここにはある．「それってWeb日記と何が違うの？」この議論はいまも続いていて終わることがない，というかすっかり酒の肴（消費の対象）になってしまった．個人的には日本におけるWeb日記と日本におけるWeblogは区分不可能だと思っている．Moblogも同じことで，写真が入るかも知れないけれどもやっぱりWeb日記との質的な差は見いだせない．ではこんなに盛り上がるのはなぜか．言い切っていいのかどうかは知らないが，日本以外でのWeblogの位置づけが何か違うからなのだろう．いま彼の地で代表的といわれるなWeblogは専門家が自分の専門について毎日書き記すような類のもの．レッシグとか．過日のWWW2003の論文では「Personal Knowledge Publishing」という大枠の中にWeblogを位置づけるものがあったが，まさにそういう感じなのだろう．ならばWeblogがジャーナリズムの革命だ！と叫ばれたのも納得できなくはない．そう，Weblogは自分の本業，昼の仕事を世界に開くための手段だったのだ．これを「昼のWeblog」と呼ぶことにする．翻って日本では，インターネットは夜の領域に属するものではなかっただろうか．本業から帰ってきてその日にあったことを認める，そうするとそのコンテンツは本業も趣味も生活も渾然一体のものになる．それが日記であって，Weblogが輸入されてきてもやることは同じ，Moblogでも同じ（認める時間は変わるかも）．これを「夜のWeblog」と呼ぶ（夜の日記でもいいけど）．一方，彼の地の人々においてはMoblog（というか携帯電話）によって自分の生活が記述される可能性が出てきた．昼のWeblogにはない部分，夜のWeblogがMoblogによって達成され，しかもそれが読んでみたら楽しくて，革命！という筋書きなのではなかろうか．でないとこのピンとこなさが理解できない．．．ネット初期において個人ページが存在しなかった彼の地では，（昼の）Weblogによる革命，Moblogによる（夜の）革命と革命ばっかり起こって楽しそうだが，こっちとしてはおもしろくも何ともない．だからいきなり元祖を名乗られたりビジネスチャンス扱いされると気にくわないということになる．

もう1点，Moblogがどうかなと思うのは，思考が携帯電話というデバイスに完全に支配されているというところにある．カメラ機能で写真をポスト，GPS機能で位置情報をポスト，そりゃまあそうやろう．じゃあ次に携帯にボイスレコーダー機能がついたら，音声ファイルをポストするのだろうか（もうやってるか？）．これでは携帯メーカーの想像力の問題になってしまってわざわざユーザー側が集まる意味がない．革命を標榜するなら猫の写真をアップする以外の使い方を考えないと．また個人的な意見になるけれども携帯を人間関係デバイスと捉えてfoaf的なアプローチを徹底させるとか，集団性の問題（ひとりひとりが固有の場所にいてかつ他の人とつながっている）を突き詰めるとか，やりようはいくらでもあるはず（やし自分でもやるつもり）．

ということでこんな感じの考察ができたことは大きな収穫．近いうちにあの辺のコミュニティに接触しなければなあという目標もできた．こんな規模の会議を実現するのはさぞかし大変だっただろうなあ，と主催者に感謝の意を．
