semblogとはなんぞや，という手段の部分の話をちゃんと書かないままに目的を言ってしまうんやけど，やりたいのは要するに「オープンソーステキスト」の実現，ということ．普通に考えるとこの言葉は大いなる矛盾を含んでいる．テキストってもともとオープンなものではないのかと．ソフトウェアの場合は人間が書くソースをコンピュータが実行できるバイナリに変換（コンパイル）してバイナリだけを配っているという現状があり，それでは人間の智恵が伝達・再利用できないのでソースも入手可能にすべし，というオープンソースムーブメント（粗筋でアレやけど）が生まれるのは，確かにそうかなと納得できる．ではテキストの場合，智恵の伝達と再利用はすでに可能になっているだろうか．意外とそうなってはいなくて，ここでは電子化されたテキストのことを念頭に置いているけども，Web上に置いてあるテキストというのはある意味HTMLとしてコンパイルされて提供されている．実のところ，ブラウザで表示できる「ソース」というのは何やらわけのわからん（わかるけど）タグに装飾されていて，再利用するにしても文章と文章のつながりは自分で判断しないといけない．またはブラウザ上でコピペしたっていいけど，それはそれで手作業だ．この情報化時代に機械の力を借りられないのはなかなか面倒な話であり，せっかく電子化されたテキストがあるのならばもうちょっとだけ機械に合わせてあげて人間にとって便利なものにしたい，というのがモチベーションとしてある．一方で，これだけWebが広がったのはHTMLのおかげというかタグをつけると見た目が変わる，それが楽しくてみんなが参加するようになったという一面があって，そういう意味でのクリエイティビティは否定すべきではないし，その線を守らないともともとWebが何であったのかという本質を踏み外す．さてこの相反する要求をどうやってクリアするかということで持ち出してくるのがオープンソースの概念である．端的に言ってしまえば原材料と完成品を両方入手できるようにしておけばいい，ということ．入手したあとのことはその人が好きに考えればいいわけで，とりあえずは入手可能性の部分を機械で支援したいと思っている．いまのところそれはある面では達成されていて，ある面では全然足りていない．インターフェイスとか権利関係とか．その足りていない部分を埋めること，そして原材料と完成品を両方手に入れられるようになったときにどんな可能性が生まれるのかを示すこと，それがsemblogプロジェクトの目的だったりする．こんなに長々と書くつもりはなかったけど（しかもいきなり終わる），マニフェストもしくはアジテーションとしてはそんな感じです．
